What is a Quick Connect Mini Split Unit?

A Quick Connect mini split is a unit that has the copper line-set already in a vacuum with no need for a vacuum pump.

A line-set is two copper lines that carry refrigerant between the inside and outside condenser transferring heat in or out.

The line-set needs to be in a vacuum as not to contaminate the refrigerant.

Most kits require a vacuum pump and HVAC gauges to pump down the line-set after it is connected.

Quick Connect kits come with a line-set in a vacuum with sealed ends.

The seal is broken only after being bolted onto a condenser.

Benefits of Quick Connect Mini Split

  • Line-set comes set in a vacuum.

Have installed two Dimstal Heat pumps from Simando, Germany.
    Easy installation of both.
Easy connection of the tubes. Remember to open the two hex screws on the outdoor unit. If not, you will not get any heat or cooling. Also, insulate the pipes as well as possible, inclusive the valves on the outdoor unit.
If you have space, put extra insulation to avoid loss of heat if you have long tubes between the units.
Takes a few minutes to start up, by first start, but then it heats well
So if you can use standard tools, you will be able to install alone.
Negative is that the installation manuals often are not complete, but Youtube might be of help.

    Something to take into consideration:

Some warranties for non DIY units often require a certified installer whereas DIY (Quick Connect) systems do not (at least for Mr. Cool DIY). Also, Pioneer units installed with Kwik-e-vac do not require a certified technician.

I’ve installed 4 Mr. Cool DIY units. I’ve also installed 3 Pioneer units using their Kwik-e-vac and got a new compressor unit (for shipping charges) when one developed a leak without having to prove it was installed by a certified technician. Just send them a picture of the oil leaking out between the fins.
