An EC error code on a mini split indicates a Refrigerant Leakage Detection Error.
This means the system has detected a leak.
While there may be a leak in the unit keep in mind sensors and boards malfunction.
Causes of E1 Error Code
- Refrigerant Leak
- Bad connection
- Bad Indoor PCB
- Bad Outdoor PCB
Several things can cause an EC error with the main problem usually a leak somewhere in the system.
While a leak is the usual problem a bad sensor, connection, or bad PCB can also give the same error.
Steps To Fix a Mini Split E1 Error Code
- Power Cycle Off and On the Unit
- Check for Refrigerant leak
- Bad Sensor or Loose Connection
- Bad Indoor or Outdoor Main PCB
Power the unit off and turn the power off at the breaker for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the power back on, if the error is still there follow the next step.
When looking for a leak see if there is any oil is around a joint or spot.
Leaks can be found a few ways including using soap and water.
Most HVAC techs will have a refrigerant leak detector that beeps loudly next to a leaking spot.
A bad PCB board can also give this error.
Check all other options before replacing a PCB board.
